Leading to anxiety or depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder affects 2 million Americans. 1/3 of adults with OCD had developed symptoms as a child and seems to affect just as many men as women. Statistics show that it can be genetic or can also begin in childhood, the teen years or early adulthood. Learn How Panic Away can CURE your anxiety attacks.
When a person is plagued with repeated thoughts or obsessions such as excessively washing hands (fear of germs) or checking to make sure the appliances are off this is known as a type of anxiety called Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or OCD.
I had a friend over for dinner the other night and she told me she has been aware of her OCD since the 8th grade. Her behaviour consists of always having things perfectly neat and lined up, when her friends come over and move anything in her room out of her symmetrical alignment it triggers her anxiety and she immediately feels stricken with panic, this had led her to finally talk to each of her friends individually expressing how she feels and her OCD. Now all of her friends are doing their best to understand her situation and her panic attacks. Although she was hesitant at first, she was so relieved when she told her friends and appreciates their support. But she wants to learn how to get OVER it!
Symptoms of OCD:
- Fear of dirt or germs
- Repeating certain phrases
- Frequent hand washing, fear of being contaminated
- Constantly cleaning your house even when it`s not dirty
- Counting, ritualistic behaviours or patterns that you feel compelled to do and can`t seem to stop doing.
- Fear of appliances left on or door not being locked so you check over and over and over
- Obsessive about weight, constantly weighing yourself several times a day
- Driving around the block several times to make sure no one has been run over
- Needing things to be orderly and symmetrical, aligning them in a certain way that feels “perfect“.
- Picking at your skin
There is a definite link between OCD and anxiety. Obsessive Compulsive disorder can take over your life leaving you feel smothered and unable to stop obsessing.
Even though the person can possibly recognize that the behaviour or obsessive thoughts don’t make any logical sense they still perform their rules or rituals, some take up to hours a day and can considerably interfere with a person’s life.
Take control of your life again, don`t let the obsessive, unwanted thoughts harass you any longer. The Panic Away program will help you to recover from anxiety attacks and the results will last a LIFETIME!
