Being Fat Was Killing Me

April 10th, 2010 · No Comments

(There was no doubt about it.~I couldn’t deny it any longer~It was a fact that was very obvious.} My body was sick. I was very obese and my body was not working the way it was supposed to anymore. It wasn’t a surprise when my physician gave me a long list of all of the issues I was facing. All of them were related to my weight. I was digging a grave for myself by living the way that I did.

It was not hard to notice that I had weight issues. It was clear to me what the problem was, but how could I solve the problem? It took me years to get my body into the shape I was, but I didn’t have years to fix it. I was lost and didn’t know where to turn when I went searching on the internet and found something called the biggest loser forum, where there were chat rooms full of people who were fighting a weight loss battle of their own. I was given a list of ideas from others who faced similar problems along with some links to even more information. The internet did not lack for advice on what a person in my situation should do. After that I made the decision that now was the time to do something about it.

The first thing I did was to go to my doctor. With the assistance of the doctor I was able to figure out what I was going to try to do to get rid of the weight. The main thing was that he agreed that I should do something about it. The first approach that I was going to take was the oldest one out there, control what I eat and start a workout plan to use more energy than I took in. I stuck to the diet despite my cravings for all the foods that I was not allowed to eat any more, and I did my exercises faithfully every day, even the six pack ab exercises, that were on the video I had found in the attic. Despite my efforts, I was not making progress. After six months I had not lost a significant amount of weight and I was getting discouraged. I was looking for a plan that would work, but I didn’t know where to turn to find one.

I went back to my doctor and told him it was time for me to find a way to learn how to lose weight fast, and what would he suggest that I try next to accomplish this goal since I had run out of ideas. I went back to my physician to see what he could suggest for me to try. My doctor suggested a method that would reduce the size of my stomach. The smaller stomach meant I would consume less food at one time but would eat more often. I knew that this type of drastic measure was filled with peril. However, I was taking more of a risk by being severely overweight. If I didn’t change something soon, I could die at any moment. I turned to the people I love to giver me the guidance and support that I required when thinking about the possibilities.

We scheduled the operation for the soonest possible date and I got myself prepared. The operation was successful and I spent a short time in bed at the hospital. I got stronger each day after the surgery and looked forward to the next step. The amount of food I consumed during my recovery was very small. Once I recovered enough from the surgery, I began my exercise routine. I was not going to accept anything short of success with this plan. And it was working. The pounds were coming off of my body. Within the first year after surgery I had lost over one hundred pounds. It has been two years since my surgery and I am exactly half the man I used to be. People could no call me fat anymore because I didn’t have a belly that got to a door two minutes before the rest of my body. I decreased the amount of medication that I had to take just to take care of the problems that had been caused by my weight. I have stayed committed to keeping fit and now have the company of my wife and children in my journey. If I hadn’t done this, I would have died, but now I wake up each morning and enjoy the new day.
